Lakers vs. Spurs Prediction for Tonight's Game on ESPN, Friday, 12/15
If not for the historically bad stretch the Detroit Pistons are on, there would be even more talk about the Spurs’ current 18-game losing streak. Of course, the focus of this matchup specifically is LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama, as they are the two most high-profile #1 overall draft picks in NBA history. Although LBJ was ruled out of the first game, we expect to see him on the court tonight.
Wemby has been living up to the hype by most fans’ standards, but that also speaks volumes to just how poorly San Antonio has been playing. The Frenchman leads the team in points, rebounds, blocks and steals per game. That may be impressive, but if a teenager is doing that, the pieces around him are simply not up to par.
On the flip side, we all know LA recently won the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament, and they’ve had much more consistent play from Anthony Davis this season. Along with D’Angelo Russell facilitating that offense at an elite level, the Lakers are firing on all cylinders. It’s also worth noting the Spurs aren’t just losing games.
They haven’t even been able to keep things close for the most part, as they also have the worst against-the-spread record in the NBA. We know it was a closer win than expected the other night, but we’re still comfortable making our best Lakers vs. Spurs prediction on LA -7.5 (-108 at FanDuel Sportsbook).
Lakers vs. Spurs Player Props & Free Picks Featuring LeBron James & Victor Wembanyama
Given that we’re anticipating LeBron used Wednesday night to rest and will be on the court tonight, it’s only fitting he’s the first target of our Lakers vs. Spurs player props. You’d think he was 28 years old rather than 38 the way he’s able to play at such a high level at this point in his career.
He is yet again leading the team in points per game, as well as both assists and steals per game. Most fans often go with the approach of his scoring prop, but we’re eyeing his assist prop for tonight. It’s a bit of an odd stat to analyze, but it’s still worth noting the Spurs allow the third-most assists per game.
In other words, they allow the opposition to freely run their offense, and with LeBron being considered one of the best passers in NBA history, he should be able to do just that. After all, in his four games this month, he’s recorded seven, 11, eight and nine assists. We mentioned Davis has been stepping up, and that means he’s been finishing on LeBron’s passes.
With that in mind, our Lakers vs. Spurs player props are tipping off with LeBron James over 7.5 assists (+112 at FanDuel Sportsbook). If he is ruled out late, consider taking D’Angelo Russel for the same prop.
On the San Antonio side of things, it’s no shock Wemby is our target. It’s not just that he’s the most polarizing player in the league right now, but he truly is a one-man show for the Spurs. If they want any hope of even competing, he’s going to need to continue to showcase his talent.
With him leading the team in nearly every statistical category, the options are virtually endless. However, we’re going to go with more of a value approach. We all know he can rack up rebounds, and he grabbed 13 on Wednesday night. Despite that, we want to target his blocks instead.
As mentioned, Davis has been playing well this season, so rebounds may not always be as easy to come by. Block props mean we don’t need many for it to cash, but Wemby has still been able to record several on a nightly basis. In his last three games, he’s had four, five and six blocks, and he had four in back-to-back games to close out November.
It may not be the most common approach, but we’re rolling with Victor Wembanyama over 2.5 blocks (-150 at FanDuel Sportsbook).

Lakers vs. Spurs Injury Report and Projected Lineup
Lastly, we’ve shared the projected lineups for both teams ahead of tonight’s game and any injury questions:
LA Lakers:
- D’Angelo Russell
- Cam Reddish
- Taurean Prince
- LeBron James
- Anthony Davis
SA Spurs:
- Devin Vassell

- Keldon Johnson
- Jeremy Sochan
- Victor Wembanyama
Of course, the biggest concern is that of LeBron, but he is still listed as just day-to-day. We also know they’ll be without Gabe Vincent, and as for San Antonio, they’re as healthy as ever. Unfortunately for them, that has still not spelled success.
