Lakers News: Darvin Ham Praises LA Guard After Standout Preseason Game
Los Angeles Lakers second-year shooting guard Max Christie turned some heads during the NBA Summer League this year with how much his game grew so quickly. He almost looked like a completely different player from his first season in the NBA, and that is great news for LA.
He looked aggressive with the ball in his hands, and willing to attack the rim when needed. Christie also showed a strong ability to knock down three-point shots as well, giving him another element to his overall game.
His performance led many to believe that he had locked up a spot in the rotation, and that continued itself during the team's opening preseason game against the Golden State Warriors. Christie scored 15 points in the game, and head coach Darvin Ham praised him afterward, as Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times relays.
“He’s a guy that can be one of our most versatile basketball players on the roster. He can guard multiple positions, from the 1 to the 3 and some 4s,” Ham said. “I want him to be aggressive in that manner and take on those challenges. And then offensively, the same thing. He can catch and shoot with the best of them. And I want him to be comfortable shooting that three. And also playing downhill, playing to the paint, playing to the rim.”
Christie gives this Lakers team a true three-and-D type of player, that also has the ability to attack the basket. His emergence this summer should allow this Lakers offense to thrive when he is on the floor, and it should give him more minutes if he produces.
He is showing why the Lakers took him in the draft, and it has been great to see. If he keeps up this level of production, the Lakers will have no choice but to give him plenty of playing time, and they will take all the help they can get this season.
