Dwight Howard Sounds Off On Rough Lakers Departure, Believes He Belongs In NBA

Would you like to see Dwight back with the Lakers?

I do not care what people say about the bubble because there's no doubt the title-winning 2020 Los Angeles Lakers were something special.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis had a supporting cast of players that looked like they were curated from a fantasy basketball draft, and former All-NBA center Dwight Howard was one of those members that got a piece of that championship cake.

During a new interview with of Zion Olojede of Complex Sports, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year and eight-time All Star has recently expressed his feelings on the idea that he currently does not have a team to play with.

"I know that there's at least 15 to 20 teams that I could play for. And I know there's teams that got great starting centers, but I know I could be a great backup center," Howard said. "I know I can provide a team with 25 minutes of dominant basketball... I just want to go out like a champ like I'm supposed to."

He also spoke about how special it was to be a part of the Lakers championship squad in 2020, hinting at some hope he has that he could revert to a similar situation this upcoming season.

“That's how we feel about the Lakers," Howard continued. "Man, it's just something that we got this connection. I don't know. It got to work. It got to work. But I do love the Lakers, man. We had the championship run there and I wish we would've had a chance to keep going because that was the squad right there. We had everything. We had everything.”

Currently without an NBA team, the 37-year-old most definitely has at least a season in him, and deserves one last hoorah. Following a third nonconsecutive season with the Lakers in 2021-22, the 6'9" big man put up eye-popping numbers for Taiwan's Taoyuan Leopards in 2022-23.

With reports that the Lakers are looking to add an additional big man for their 14th roster spot, would Dwight Howard be a good fit? Or are his NBA days truly, permanently behind him?
