Lakers News: Anthony Davis Narrowly Misses Out To Fellow All-Star For POTW Award

Davis falls short. Again.

Once again, Los Angeles Lakers All-Star center Anthony Davis narrowly missed out on winning the Western Conference Player of the Week award. Davis was one of the runner-ups for the weekly honor along with Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry, Phoenix Suns' Kevin Durant and New Orleans Pelicans' Brandon Ingram, via NBA.com.

Instead, Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic won the award for the Western Conference. Doncic and the Mavericks won four games while averaging 31.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game.

Davis also enjoyed a fantastic week. Davis and the Lakers went 2-1, as he averaged 26 points, 10 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. His best game of the week came against the Charlotte Hornets, when he put up a triple-double with 26 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. While he didn't match the production level of Doncic, Davis played a big role in the Lakers getting another two wins and staying above .500 over the last week.

The 30-year-old last won a Player of the Week award last season on April 3rd. While Davis fell short of this award, he's received plenty of other special accolades throughout his career. He's a nine-time All-Star, four-time All-NBA first team and part of the NBA's 75th anniversary team among other awards.

Most importantly, Davis playing at this level heading into the second half of the season will boost the Lakers odds at making the postseason, and far into the tournament. On the season as a whole, Davis is averaging 24.7 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.9. assists. These numbers should continue to improve with more weeks like Davis just had.
