Lakers News: Colin Cowherd Issues Mea Culpa On Austin Reaves
The Los Angeles Lakers will be one of the most interesting teams to watch once the 2023-2024 season kicks off. No big draft night trade was made by them, no massive free agent signing went through, they just focused on retaining the guys that produced for them in that second half of last season while also targeting some veterans that could actually provide some depth for them.
Looking at other Western Conference squads, it was definitely the Phoenix Suns who really went all-in as they traded for Bradley Beal and also welcomed in a number of veterans on small deals in order to fill out their lineup as well.
So when you factor in how Anthony Davis will be looking for an MVP-like season and that LeBron James will be even closer to pushing 40-years-old, all eyes will be on Austin Reaves after he got they pay day he had been looking for. Reaves is still 25-years-old but after thriving as the number three option for the purple and gold in the postseason, LA knew he was a top priority this summer.
And sports personality Colin Cowherd wasn't too sold on the Lakers giving him so much money at first. He went as far as to compare the former Oklahoma guard's game to that of two-way contract player and 2023 Slam Dunk Champion Mac McClung.
However, after news broke that it only took $56 million to lock down Reaves for four years, Cowherd admitted that even though Reaves' ceiling may not be much higher than his current self, it was still a great signing.
"Here's the thing about Austin Reaves,' said Cowherd. "In football, a lot of the guys that get drafted in the first round spent three years in college and didn't red shirt, they're like 21-years-old. As you get fifth-year seniors out of Wisconsin, he is what he is. Austin spent a lot of years in college, two years in the league, he's older and experienced at 25. I like him.. I think he'll to get 16, 17 points a game."

We are glad Cowherd finally gave Reaves his flowers!
