Lakers News: LA Hires Former NBA Journeyman to Coaching Staff, Darvin Ham Reunion

Former first-round pick joins the Lakers personnel!

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a stellar start to the offseason, picking up players like Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and bringing back Austin Reaves and D'Angelo Russell.

They continue to make moves by hiring former first-round Big Man, DeMarre Carroll, to the Lakers coaching Staff.

Carroll was drafted in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. The Power Forward from Vanderbilt was bounced all across the NBA, playing for teams like the Spurs, Raptors, Rockets, and more.

But his best performances came in Atlanta, where he was first introduced to Lakers Head Coach, Darvin Ham, who was the Hawks Assistant Coach from 2013-2018

Carroll played a huge role in the Atlanta Hawks 2014 season, where Atlanta finished the year 60-22 and first in the East, and a lot of that success was influence by Ham as he led Atlanta to five consecutive playoff appearances.

When he called it quits on his playing career, Carroll joined his former coach in Atlanta, Mike Budenholzer, as an Assistant Coach for the Milwaukee Bucks last season.

DeMarre Carroll will now become a Laker as he reunites with Darvin Ham as an Assistant Coach.

Still a little raw in his coaching career, a reunion with the coach that helped him throughout his playing career seems to be a great fit for the Lakers.

Besides, its never bad when you have good chemistry within the coaching staff. This pick-up for the Lakers is just another addition to this already impactful offseason.
