Lakers News: LeBron James Had Been Agitating For LA To Trade For This Kind Of Piece

The front office would be wise to listen to James.

Throughout his tenure with the Lakers, the team has been looking for a third star to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They tried to make it happen with Russell Westbrook, only for the move to completely backfire in their faces.

But James reportedly would still like a ball-handling type of guard on the team to help take the pressure off him on the offensive end. He is getting up there in age, and playing more off-ball has been a goal of his.

"James has long wanted a star ballhandling sidekick, dating back to the Lakers’ failed bid for Damian Lillard in the summer of 2021 and their subsequent deal for Russell Westbrook."

It's not for the lack of trying on James' part. He has made it known to the front office about his desires, but so far, nothing has come of it.

There was a thought that the Lakers could land Dejounte Murray at the trade deadline this season, but Atlanta didn't want to play ball. And now there has been talk about the team going after Trae Young this summer.

"Since then, James urged the Lakers to acquire former running mate Kyrie Irving in the summer of 2022, at the 2023 trade deadline and again in the summer of 2023, according to team and league sources. James was also in support of the Lakers trading for Dejounte Murray or Zach LaVine — two Klutch Sports clients — in the weeks and months leading into the 2024 trade deadline, according to those sources."

The Lakers would be wise to find a guard like this over the summer. If they want to keep James in town and happy, they will do whatever they can to add more talent to this roster over the offseason.
