Lakers News: LeBron James Hammers Home LA's Utter Mediocrity After Atlanta Blowout

The Lakers continue to hover around .500.

Your Los Angeles Lakers have been consistently mediocre through the first half of the 2023-2024 NBA season, with their record almost always around .500.

After falling 138-122 to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, LA dropped to a 24-25 record on the season.

LeBron James summed up this back-and-forth swing perfectly when talking to reporters Tuesday, as captured by ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

“We could on any given night beat any team in the NBA," James said. "And then on any given night we could get our ass kicked."

This loss to the Hawks marks LA's second straight in two days after falling to the Houston Rockets Monday. Prior to these two, the Lakers had won two straight, including an exhilarating 145-144 win in double overtime against the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers have not won or lost more than two games in a row since early January, when they went on a three-game losing streak. They last won more than two games in a row when they won the inaugural NBA in-season tournament in November.

If this trend continues, the Lakers should pick up a win on Thursday at the Boston Celtics and return to a .500 record. This won't be an easy game, as the Celtics beat the Lakers on Christmas, the last time the two teams played. Hopefully for the Lakers, Anthony Davis will be able to play again after missing the Hawks game.
