Lakers News: Why Stephen A Smith Thinks LeBron James Rival Will Win 5th Title First
Both LeBron James and Stephen Curry have racked up four NBA championships through their NBA careers so far. While there's no guarantee that either will pick up a fifth ring before they walk away from the game, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith believes that Curry is more likely another title first.
Smith believes that Curry is most likely to because the Golden State Warriors are better shooters, which Smith thinks is key for winning another title.
“I roll with the Warriors on this question. The Warriors, I said it. I didn’t stutter, and I tell you why. ‘Cause I don’t think the Lakers can shoot well enough, and ultimately that’s what it’s going to come down to.
Regardless of the Warriors' shooting, both teams have a tough path to make it to the NBA Finals at least this season. The Lakers and Warriors currently hold the No. 9 and No. 10 seeds in the Western Conference. If the season ended today, that would mean both teams would have to win in the play-in tournament just to make the postseason.
Outside of the odds for either player to win another title this season, Curry could also have better odds going forward since he is younger than LeBron. LeBron is 39 and has indicated that he is thinking about retiring. Curry is currently 35. Though Curry might not play as long and could retire at a younger age, right now it seems like he will outlast LeBron, giving him more years to take a crack at a fifth ring.
All in all, only time will tell if either all-time great can reel in another championship. For now, it's best to enjoy seeing them play and contend for a title while they're still in the game.
