Los Angeles Lakers vs. Memphis Grizzlies Series Preview
This is one of the most exciting matchups in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. These two teams have taken totally different roads to get here. The Lakers dealt with injuries all season long, featuring stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis at the top of that list. Plus, they revamped their team at the trade deadline by acquiring D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley and Rui Hachimura.
The Grizzlies had their own issues as a team this year. Steven Adams, who was a big part of their defense, went down with an injury and is still out. Plus, Ja Morant went away from the team for a week for some personal matters. Even with all that, the Grizzlies still found a way to be the two-seed in the Western Conference.
A big reason for their success, even with those guys out, was the emergence of Jaren Jackson Jr.
JJJ has a very good chance of winning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, as he averaged a league-high three blocks per game. The matchup between him and Anthony Davis will be a great watch throughout this series.

This Lakers vs.Grizzlies series is going to be a battle all the way through, and we would not be surprised if it went the full seven games. As we mentioned above, the matchup between Anthony Davis and Jaren Jackson Jr. is going to be outstanding.
Both players are incredible defenders, plus we know they have some offensive game. Anthony Davis is a bit more old school, shooting from the mid-range, while JJJ will stretch it out to the three-point line. He shot 4.5 from deep per game while connecting at a 35% clip from downtown.
The major issue we see from the Lakers in this series is how they keep Morant from getting to the lane whenever he wants. Austin Reaves is a good defender, but he is not athletic enough to keep him in front. Plus, their other option is to put Russell on him, but I think we all know that won’t go well.
This whole series depends on if LeBron James can stay healthy throughout, while playing every other day at a 40-minute clip. We already saw him taking some plays off during the play-in win over the Timberwolves.
