USA track and field sprinter Noah Lyles recently took exception to the NBA using "World Champions" when talking about the winner of the NBA Finals. Speaking from the podium, Lyles said, "I have to watch the NBA Finals, and they have world champion on their heads. World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong, I love the US at times. But that ain't the world."

Denver Nuggets star Aaron Gordon was one of many NBA players to respond to Lyles; however, his reaction was much different than many of the others:

"Whatever... I'm smoking buddy in the 200m," Gordon commented.

While other NBA players were responding to Lyles' take, Gordon joked that he could take him in the 200 meter. Obviously not serious, this was seemingly Gordon's way of firing back at what he felt was the ridiculous nature of Lyles' comments. The Nuggets star was just one of several NBA players who had an issue with what Lyles had to say, and it's certainly understandable.

Not technically wrong, since the NBA Finals are not a world championship, Lyles is getting pushback because the NBA is the highest-level basketball league in the world. Made up of stars from around the world, including the reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic, the NBA is a global league - even if 29 of their 30 teams are in the United States.
