Nikola Jokic's Honest Statement Before NBA Playoffs Begin

The Denver Nuggets are trying to secure the first seed

The Denver Nuggets will spend the remainder of the regular season trying to lock up the first seed. Unlike the Eastern Conference where the Boston Celtics were able to run away with the top spot weeks ago, the Western Conference has three teams in the running for the first seed.

As things sit currently, the Denver Nuggets are tied atop the West with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and have just a one game lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

There is always a debate around this time of year about the possibility of NBA teams flipping a switch for the postseason. While some teams are entering the playoffs on a hot streak, others are limping their way to the postseason, and will hope to flip a switch in in order to make a deep run.

When asked about this following a loss to the LA Clippers, Nuggets star Nikola Jokic said, “I think that doesn’t really exist, that switch that you can turn. I think you need to build it. Yes, last year we lost a couple games at the end, but I think that was just basically a slump. I think we still played good, it was just bad momentum. Same as the game, you have good runs and bad runs. I think in the season you have good runs and bad runs too.”

As Jokic mentioned, last year‘s Nuggets team lost some games down the stretch of the regular season, but were still mostly a dominant team all year long. This helped them in their playoff run that led to the first championship in franchise history, which is something they will look to repeat this year.
