Standings Watch: Suns Clinch Top 10 Seed in West
The Phoenix Suns are at least guaranteed a play-in spot moving into Friday.
PHOENIX -- As the Phoenix Suns look to expand their postseason ceiling, the team now knows they have a guaranteed game past No. 82 of the regular season.
With the Houston Rockets' loss on Thursday night, the Suns are locked into at least a play-in tournament spot.
Heading into Friday's matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Suns own possession of the West's No. 6 seed.
Western Conference Standings
- Minnesota Timberwolves
- Denver Nuggets (0.5 games back)
- Oklahoma City Thunder (1 game back)
- Los Angeles Clippers (5 games back)
- Dallas Mavericks (7 games back)
- Phoenix Suns (8 games back)
- New Orleans Pelicans (8 games back)
- Sacramento Kings (9 games back)
- Los Angeles Lakers (9.5 games back)
- Golden State Warriors (11 games back)
The Suns play host to the Timberwolves before big matchups against the Pelicans and Clippers follow in their next two games.
Phoenix looks to avoid the play-in tournament by snagging at least the No. 6 spot when the dust settles and could climb as high as the four-seed in the West, which would see them host a home playoff series.
The Suns have already matched their win total from last season.
Regardless of where Phoenix finishes, they're set to take on arguably the toughest group of postseason teams seen in the last few years, as it feels like anybody in the West can emerge as victors from the conference.
