Cavaliers Star Donovan Mitchell Could Miss Matchup vs. Pistons
After taking down the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday, the Detroit Pistons return to action Friday night. Next up is a matchup against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Heading into this game, the Cavs sit in second place in the East with a 38-20 record. While they've been one of the hotter teams in the league in recent weeks, they might be without one of their top players against the Pistons. Per the latest injury report, Donovan Mitchell is questionable due to left knee soreness.
Over the past week, Mitchell has missed two of the Cavaliers' last five games. It's worth noting Cleveland wasn't able to secure a win on either occasion. The five-time All-Star has appeared in 47 games this season and is averaging 28.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 6.2 APG.
As for the Pistons, they'll almost be at full strength when they take on the Cavs. Rookie guard Marcus Sasser is the only player they have listed as he is out due to a right knee contusion. Detroit will also have the services of Isaiah Stewart as he has returned from his three-game suspension. His presence will be needed against a jumbo-sized Cavaliers lineup.
Friday will be the fourth and final meeting between these two teams. The Cavaliers currently have a commanding 3-0 lead in the season series. These teams last squared off at the end of January, with Cleveland securing a seven-point victory.
This will be the first time the Pistons take on the Cavs since their flurry of changes at the trade deadline. The revamped and motivated roster will be aiming to stay in the win column for the second straight game.
One player who is trying to help Detroit end the year on a high note is Cade Cunningham. Since the All-Star break, the Pistons guard is averaging 28.5 PPG and 6.3 RPG.
