Detroit Pistons Make Roster Move After Loss vs Grizzlies
The Detroit Pistons have added to their roster after a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Over the past few weeks, the Detroit Pistons have had to shut down multiple players for the remainder of the season. In light of this, the front office has signed an array of players to 10-day contract to keep the roster whole. After their nail-biting loss to the Memphis Grizzlies Monday, the team announced another signing.
On Tuesday afternoon, Shams Charania reported that the Pistons are planning to sign Jaylen Nowell to a 10-day contract. The 24-year-old forward was a second-round pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2019.
Nowell spent the first four years of his career in Minnesota, where he averaged 9.1 PPG, 2.2 RPG, and 1.9 APG. This past offseason, he found himself on the hunt for a new home. The Sacramento Kings signed him to an Exhibit 10 deal, but ended up waiving him just before the regular season began.
Before signing with the Pistons, Nowell appeared in nine NBA games this year. At the end of November, Nowell landed a pair of 10-day contracts with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, they ended up not giving him a contract for the remainder of the season.
Since his stint with the Grizzlies, Nowell has been playing in the G-League for the Kings’ affiliate, the Stockton Kings. His averages this season sit at 17.0 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 3.5 APG.
With the Pistons, Nowell will provide some guard depth behind Cade Cunningham. The extra help will be needed as rookie Marcus Sasser continues to work his way back from injury. Upon signing this contract, Nowell could potentially make his debut for Detroit on Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks.
