Former All-Star and Champion Listed as a Pistons Top Free Agent Target
This offseason, the Detroit Pistons have an opportunity to be a major player in free agency. Following their flurry of moves at the trade deadline, they are in a position to have the most open cap space this offseason.
With the ability to outbid the competition, the Pistons could secure a big upgrade to the roster. That said, they still have to be mindful of the future. In the coming years, young players like Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and Jalen Duren will be eiligible for extensions off their rookie contracts.
Even though free agency is still a few months away, the people at Bleacher Report put together targets for every team. At the top of the list for the Pistons is now Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam. Former Piston Tobias Harris and Miles Bridges were also among the players mentioned.
Many expect Siakam to stay with the Pacers in free agency after they just traded for him. However, if things go south, Detroit could swoop in and sign the former All-Star.
Siakam, 29, is still a high-impact player in the league. This season, he is averaging 22.0 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 4.9 APG. Even though his timeline doesn't match the core, he is a veteran that could help the group take a big step in the right direction. As a former champion, Siakam understands what it takes to win at the highest level.
Harris is another reliable veteran that could help the Pistons on and off the court. The veteran forward has been a key piece for the Philadelphia 76er since arriving there in 2019. Harris is currently posting averages of 17.7 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 3.4 APG. Along with providing a scoring punch, the veteran forward can also help the Pistons as a floor spacer.
From an age perspective, Bridges might be the best fit for the Pistons. At 25-years-old, he is on the cusp of his prime. Off-court issues aside, Bridges is a young athletic forward who can easily slide in next to guys like Cunningham, Ivey, and Ausar Thompson.
