Monty Williams has High Praise for Pistons Deadline Acquisition
Over the weekend, the Detroit Pistons suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the Orlando Magic. However, there were still some positive takeaways from the matchup. Most notably, the debut of trade deadline acquisition Quentin Grimes.
Grimes came over from the New York Knicks in the Bojan Bgodanovic/Alec Burks deal. His debut got delayed as he was dealing with a knee injury that kept him on the sidelines.
Following the All-Star break, the Pistons felt Grimes was ready physically to take the floor. He did a little bit of everything in his first game for Detroit, posting a stat line of five points, two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. Grimes' struggled shooting-wise, but that is to be expected giving the circumstances.
During his postgame media availability, Pistons coach Monty Williams touched on Grimes. He feels the young guard is also going to get better as he gets more reps under his belt.
"I think Quentin is going to be better and better as he gets his legs underneath him," Williams said.
Later on, Williams was asked about Grimes' shooting. He finished just 2-for-8 from the field and 1-for-5 from deep. Similar to what he said before, Williams isn't worried at the moment and thinks things will turn around once he gets in a rhythm.
"I like what he brings to the table," Williams continued. "His shot, that's going to come as he gets his rhythm and gets his cardio."
During his time with the Knicks, Grimes showed the potential of being a productive three-and-D guard. In two-and-a-half seasons with New York, he averaged 8.6 PPG while shooting close to 38% from beyond the arc.
