Monty Williams Provides Update on Pistons Deadline Acquisition

Monty Williams speaks on Quentin Grimes' participation in practice Wednesday.

At the trade deadline, the Detroit Pistons' roster went through a near complete makeover. Among the new faces brought in two weeks away from former New York Knicks guard Quentin Grimes.

Grimes came over to the Pistons in the Bojan Bogdanovic/Alec Burks trade. The 23-year-old guard provides upside on both ends of the floor, and fits the timeline of the team's core.

Since coming to Detroit, Grimes has yet to make his debut due to a knee injury. That said, the All-Star break appears to have done well for him. Following practice on Wednesday, head coach Monty Williams provided a positive update.

“He did everything. There’s a plan in place for him. We’ll evaluate how he feels. He responded today," Williams said. "We played a lot. We probably scrimmaged for an hour and a half today. We’ll see how he responds.”

The Pistons make their return to action on Thursday, February 22nd. Their first game out of the break is against Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers. Based on Williams' comments, there is a chance Grimes could make his debut in this matchup.

Before being traded, Grimes appeared in 45 games for the Knicks. In that span, he averaged 7.3 PPG, 2.0 RPG, and 1.2 APG. The young guard also shot 36.3% from deep on close to five attempts per game.

Looking ahead, Grimes has the potential to be a key piece of the Pistons' supporting cast moving forward. He brings a three-and-D style of play that this team can greatly benefit from.

Following this strong outing in practice, all the Pistons can do now is wait and see if Grimes is ready physically to take the floor in a game for his new team.
