Monty Williams Shares Thoughts on Pistons Trade Deadline Acquisition

Pistons coach is high on new addition Malachi Flynn.

At the trade deadline, the Detroit Pistons' roster went through a massive makeover. Among the biggest moves they made was sending Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks to the New York Knicks for a package of players and draft picks.

In their first game out of the All-Star break, Monty Williams went deep into his bench to give players an opportunity to see the floor. Despite a big night from Cade Cunningham, the Pistons ended up losing to the Indiana Pacers by a final score of 129-115.

Among those to get playing time against the Pacers was point guard Malachi Flynn. He was part of the return package that came over from the Knicks. Flynn did a little bit of everything Thursday night, finishing with two points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals.

After this performance, Pistons coach Monty Williams had high praise for the new addition.

"I just like his toughness, he isn't afraid to mix it up," Williams said. "You can tell he's played with a veteran team. For a young player, he's got some moxie about him. Defensively, he isn't afraid to mix it up. Watching him practice yesterday, I told him you bring that to the table you're going to find yourself on the floor."

Flynn, 25, is in the midst of his fourth NBA season. He's been traded twice this season, as he wound up on the Knicks as part of the OG Anunoby trade with the Toronto Raptors

As a backup point guard for the Raptors this season, Flynn averaged 5.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG, and 2.4 APG while shooting 35% from beyond the arc. Despite being a slightly older prospect, he could very well end up becoming the Pistons backup guard for the future.
