Pistons' Cade Cunningham Joined Impressive Company This Week
In the Detroit Pistons' matchup with the New York Knicks Monday, all the buzz was on the controversial ending. However, there was another major storyline from this late-game thriller. That being that Cade Cunningham continues to impress coming out of the All-Star break.
The Pistons guard has been dominant in the first few games since the break, and Monday was no different. His performance against the Knicks was even more noteworthy, as he joined an exclusive club.
By the end of the first half, Cunningham had already broke the 20-point mark. What made it more impressive was his efficiency. He went perfect shooting-wise, going 6-for-6 from the floor and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
With this performance, Cunningham became just the seventh player this season to score 20+ in a half without missing a shot. Some of the other players on the list include Joel Embiid, Jalen Brunson, and Julius Randle.
Cunningham would carry this momentum into the second half. When all was said and done, he had 32 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and two blocks. However, this outing was not enough to get his team over the hump. Following the controversial no-call from the official, the Knicks walked out of MSG with a two-point win.
The Pistons might not be fighting for playoff position, but these final weeks of the season are still important. It is a chance to work in their new young players and start building for the future.
Based on his recent string of performances, Cunningham is focused on closing out his third season strong. Since the All-Star break, the Pistons guard is averaging 28.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 6.3 APG.
