Pistons Rookie Shares Spot on Rookie Ladder With Twin Brother
Last NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons were a part of history. With the fifth overall selection, they chose Ausar Thompson. With his pick, he and his brother Amen because the first pair of siblings to be drafted in the top five of the same draft.
In his first year with the Pistons, Ausar has shown great promise. He fills up the stat sheet on a nightly basis, making him one of the morse versatile players of the team's core.
Throughout the course of the year, NBA.com puts out a weekly rookie ladder to gauge all the top first year players in the league. Ironically, Ausar is tied with his brother for the tenth spot in the rankings. At the top, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren continue to battle it out for the top spot.
Ausar has been an ironman for the Pistons this season, appearing in every game thus far. Currently, his averages sit at 8.7 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.9 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 0.9 BPG.
As for Amen, he spent a good chunk of the season on the sidelines dealing with an ankle injury. The Houston Rockets rookie has played in just 39 games, posting averages of 7.9 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 2.4 APG.
While he might not end up in the Rookie of the Year race, Ausar has been one of the most productive first year players this season. He is in the top 10 in points (7th), rebounds (3rd), assists (10th), steals (2nd), and blocks (4th).
Based on what he's shown this year, Ausar has the potential to become one of the top Swiss Army Knife players in the league down the road. His ability to do a little bit of everything should make him a good connector piece as the Pistons continue to build their core.
