Saddiq Bey Goes OFF

Saddiq Bey helped Detroit beat Orlando almost single-handedly.

No Cade Cunningham. No Jerami Grant. No problem.

At least that's how it goes when Saddiq Bey scores 51 points.

No, that's not a typo. Bey scored 51 points last night against Orlando and did it in large part by knocking down 10-of-14 three-pointers. The second-year man was all smiles after the game and rightfully so. Not only did he go off and set a monstrous career high, he did it in a win without some of his most capable running mates.

With no Cunningham and no Grant to lighten the load and demand attention from the Magic, Bey was simply sensational. The 6-8 wing got it done from all angles. He scored a couple right near the rim, a few from the mid-range and a whopping 10 from downtown.

He also went 7-for-10 from the free throw line, two of which gave him points 50 and 51 with just eight seconds remaining. Bey also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists in the 134-120 win over the Magic.

After the game, Bey was noticeably happy, excited and, most importantly, celebrated by his teammates. Cunningham, who was out with a non-covid illness, was right there to shower — literally — his teammate with praise during Bey's post game interview and you could see the joy on everyone's face. That's what it's all about when a young team is rebuilding and trying to get better.
