Whitmore, the No. 20 overall pick in this year's draft, sustained an LCL sprain on the inside and outside of his knee during the Rockets' 112-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings on March 10. Since Whitmore's injury, the Rockets have gone 9-0 as they look to get inside the Play-In Tournament standings.
Since returning from the G League in late December, Whitmore has established himself as a reliable player within Udoka's rotation. He has averaged 13.4 points on 46.1 percent shooting and 4.3 rebounds in 31 games since Jan. 1.
Whitmore's return comes at the right time for the Rockets as they make their final push for the last two weeks of the season. Houston is dangerously close to the postseason picture and having Whitmore as a scorer off the bench should give the Rockets more firepower in the second unit. It will also take some of the scoring load off of Jalen Green's shoulders.
Whitmore and the Rockets face off against the Mavericks tonight at Toyota Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
