Houston Rockets PG Fred VanVleet Off to Strong Start, But...
The Houston Rockets don't have many problems plaguing them as they've won six straight games, but nobody is perfect, especially at this point in the season.
While Fred VanVleet has been a major part of the team's turnaround and has done a great job bringing the Rockets back to relevancy, the veteran point guard has struggled with his shot inside the 3-point line.
"Fred VanVleet's shooting inside the arc is probably the biggest issue—and one over which Houston shouldn't lose too much sleep given everything else he's doing to drive success," Bleacher Report writes. "Though he has never been the most bankable finisher or pull-up marksman, the 29-year-old is struggling even by his standards. His two-point clip sits at 40.3 percent entering games on Wednesday night, and that's an improvement upon where he sat a few outings ago."
VanVleet has been able to counterbalance his poor shooting clip from inside the arc with a strong one from outside (36.8 percent). He also has shined in his passing abilities (7.9 assists per game) and his turnover-to-assist ratio of 4.7, which ranks in the top 20 in the NBA.
The Rockets rank second in the NBA in turnovers per game, a metric where they ranked dead last a year ago, so that's a testament to the work VanVleet has put in.
While he hasn't been perfect, he's been playing at an All-Star level and the Rockets wouldn't be where they are without him.
VanVleet and the Rockets return to the floor tonight as they face the Los Angeles Clippers. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT.
