NBA Standings Watch: Spurs Win Streak Bad for Lottery Odds?
The San Antonio Spurs are winners of two straight home games following the team's month-long "Rodeo Road Trip."
The wins against the playoff-bound Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers are Nos. 12 & 13 on the season, which has the Spurs inching closer to the rest of the pack.
For the draft lottery, the three teams with the worst records will have the best odds at landing the No. 1 pick. As of now, those teams are the Washington Wizards (9-51), Detroit Pistons (9-51) and Spurs (13-48).
However, the Spurs' wins have gotten them closer to falling out of that threesome with the Wizards and Pistons.
They now sit just two games "ahead" of the Charlotte Hornets (15-46), who have lost four straight games after winning five of six in mid-February.
While the Spurs would likely benefit from losing games down the stretch, it would be counterproductive to the team's overall goal to build progress for their rebuild. And especially with a lottery chase for a No. 1 pick that is still up in the air, losing games does little to help the Spurs. Victor Wembanyama is not the prize for this year's futility.
This week, the Spurs are back out on the road to face the Houston Rockets (Tue.), Sacramento Kings (Thu.) and Golden State Warriors (Sat.).
