Grayson Allen Deal Signifies Suns' Commitment to Winning
The Phoenix Suns are all in on winning, and their latest move proves exactly that.
The Phoenix Suns struck gold once again.
Phoenix once again found a way to maneuver the limited amount of financial flexibility surrounding a franchise that has gone all-in on winning in the short term.
Grayson Allen has reportedly decided to sign a four-year, $70 million dollar extension with the Suns - which included a sizable concession of about $15 million over the life of the contract, per Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro.
Suns governor Mat Ishbia has proven to be unafraid to make visionary moves - even in his first hours as the steward of the franchise.
From the acquisitions of Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, to making the grueling decision to relieve Monty Williams of his duties, to convincing seasoned vets such as Eric Gordon to join the pursuit of a title, Ishbia has gone all-in on trying to gift the first championship to the Valley since the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks.
And he hasn't ceded in that effort with Allen's new deal.
In an NBA that has many owners that use the team more for finances than winning games, Ishbia has joined Joe Lacob (Warriors) and Steve Ballmer (Clippers) as the select few that are willing to truly pay up to get a suitable on-court product.
Ishbia has now tripled-down, seemingly being convinced by the Suns' 7-3 finish to an extremely strenuous final 10 games of the season and an optimal matchup with the three-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.
This is both a valiant effort and precarious endeavor in an NBA that is now built around an emphasis on balanced team-building - but one thing is for sure - Ishbia is one-hundred percent committed to seeing through the Suns' attempt to secure their first-ever NBA championship in an era where it may be the most challenging to actually do so.
