Dillon Mitchell Athleticism Makes Him Eye Opening Prospect in Second Round

Dillon Mitchell didn’t have a breakout season at Texas but his speed and ability matches the Thunder’s style.

Wing depth and skill has become increasingly important in the NBA as the game continues to develop and change. For Oklahoma City ,the wing has been a position group that continues to change and grow in different ways. With needed depth on the wing, the Thunder may be looking in the second round to fulfill that need.

Dillon Mitchell would fit that mold the Thunder would be looking for with good value in the second round, if he falls that far. He is elite athletically at 6-foot-7, but will have a growing curve when he gets to the NBA after just one year at the college level.

Mitchell has the ability to fly up and down the court, play on both ends and has the ability to finish strong at the rim. He uses his broad shoulders and big frame to control his body to be able to finish. His frame and build may allow him to stretch the four at the next level, but he is most built for the three spot in the lineup.

He makes the most of his offensive success in transition, the style of offense Oklahoma City is most comfortable running. The Thunder lineup is lethal when in transition. He can play with the ball in hand and has the ability to create offense, though he’ll likely be used off the ball if in OKC.

Mitchell’s stats don’t jump off the page as he only scored 4.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season. He played in 17.4 minutes per game and played in 38 games for the Longhorns.

His mid range shooting and 3-point abilities could use some work, but his athleticism and speed speak for itself making, him a tangible target for OKC, likely in round two.
