NBA Betting Odds: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Updated MVP Odds

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could be fighting for a bid to win the MVP late in the NBA season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is putting together an incredible 2023-24 campaign over halfway through the NBA season. While he showed the capability to produce on the court at this level last season, the team wasn't productive enough in the win column to help Gilgeous-Alexander to a Most Valuable Player win.

While it would have been an outrage among NBA fans if a player on a 40-42 team won the MVP, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar still finished No. 5 in voting for the award.

This season, the Thunder sits at 35-16 and No. 3 in the Western Conference with half a game to catch the first seed. They're projecting to be one of the best teams in the conference come the season's end and typically, that's a recipe for having a Most Valuable Player winner.

As things stand, Gilgeous-Alexander has +250 odds -- which is the second-best odds in the NBA -- to win the Most Valuable Player award, according to ESPN BET. He trails just Nikola Jokic, who leads the odds with -135 odds to win his third MVP.

Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.1 points per game on 55 percent shooting from the floor. His production mixed with efficiency in his 34.6 minutes per game shows just why he's being considered for the MVP award.

In the updated MVP Ladder from NBA.com, Gilgeous-Alexander was ranked second for the award by Michael Wright.

"Scored 28 points in combining with Jalen Williams (26 points) and Chet Holmgren (22 points) for 76 of his team’s 117 points in a loss to Utah that snapped a three-game winning streak," Wright wrote of Gilgeous-Alexander's case.

One of the most impressive aspects of the 6-foot-6 star's game is how he produces alongside other great talents such as Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren.

"Gilgeous-Alexander is the eighth player in NBA history to produce 30 games with 30-plus points in the first 41 games of the season. He’ll lead OKC on Saturday into what should be a fun road game in Dallas against Doncic," Wright continued.
