Trail Blazers News: Portland Converting 2-Way Player To Standard Deal
Your Portland Trail Blazers have added a new big man to the ranks.
And it's a familiar face at that!
Sources inform Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that current two-way center Duop Reath has agreed to a three-year deal to join the club's standard roster.
The 6'11" big man, an undrafted rookie out of LSU, has had a circuitous route to an NBA roster.
After going unselected in 2018, he went international, playing for clubs in Serbia, New South Wales, China and Lebanon until 2023.
He joined Portland on a two-way deal, but has already carved out major rotation minutes. In 17.4 minutes across 40 contests (11 starts), he's averaging 8.9 points on .475/.385/.741 shooting splits, 3.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.5 steals per bout. The Trail Blazers would only have been able to play their backup center for 10 more games before they would have to make a decision on whether or not to convert his deal.
With Reath now inked to the team's standard roster, there's now an opening from among Portland's three two-way roster slots, alongside current signings Justin Minaya and Ibou Badji. Reath becomes the 11th player to take the leap from a two-way deal to a standard agreement during the 2023-24 season so far.
