NBA Fines Luka Doncic After Warriors vs. Mavericks Game
The NBA released a statement on Friday morning that read, "Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic has been fined $35,000 for directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. The incident occurred with :01.7 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks' 127-125 loss to the Golden State Warriors on March 22 at American Airlines Center."
The gesture being referenced was when Luka Doncic made a money gesture with his fingers towards the officiating crew. Doncic was upset at a no-call on the final possession, but the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report revealed that the only missed call in the final two minutes of the game was a missed travel on Doncic himself.
There was a lot of controversy in this Warriors vs. Mavericks game, and there is still a protest from the Mavericks that is awaiting an official ruling from the NBA. The protest was primarily due to a confusing play at the end of the third quarter, when the Warriors were able to inbound underneath their own basket for what was essentially a free dunk.
This was a very big game between two teams trying to avoid the play-in tournament, so it was understandable that emotions were high on both sides. Never hesitant to talk to the officials, Doncic took things a little bit too far this time, and will have to pay a fine because of it.
