Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor retires following 12-year career
Cornerback Ike Taylor has retired following a 12-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced on Tuesday.
Taylor, who turns 35 next month, was limited to just five games last season because of a broken arm. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2003 draft, and he won two Super Bowls with Pittsburgh.
Taylor said it was important to him to retire as a Steeler.
“Other than having my son, playing for the Steelers has been the best experience in my entire lifetime,” said Taylor. “It is rare, in this day of free agency that is super rare to play for one team. For me to have this opportunity says a lot about how they felt about me, what I gave back to the organization.”

Earlier in the offseason, Taylor said he wanted to stay with the franchise in some capacity after he retires.
He is the second member of Pittsburgh’s secondary to retire this month, following fellow 2003 draftee Troy Polamalu’s announcement last week.
“We came in together, we were going out together,” said Taylor. “That is how we rock. We came in, we are leaving together. That is my loyalty to that man. I said once Troy does his, I will decide. That is what I owe to Troy.”
In addition to the losses in the secondary, longtime defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau left the team to join the Tennessee Titans.
