Russell Wilson Set to Meet with Steelers Before Free Agency, per Report

Russell Wilson is set to become a free agent as soon as his release from the Denver Broncos becomes official, and apparently he’s already receiving interest from one prominent team in need of a veteran quarterback.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have interest in signing Wilson and are already set to meet with the free agent, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reported Thursday. Dulac also reports that Wilson has mutual interest in potentially joining the Steelers.

Wilson’s two-year stint with the Broncos essentially ended this week with a public announcement by the team, although he won’t officially become a free agent until Wednesday. In two seasons with Denver, Wilson played in 30 games and totaled 6,594 passing yards, 42 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions.

The Broncos are taking on an $85 million cap hit in dead money in order to move on from Wilson.

Pittsburgh went 10-7 last season but lost to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett has played in 25 games over his first two pro seasons, totaling 13 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions and 4,474 passing yards.
