Bills 'Bull****!' Did DeAndre Hopkins Shut Down Signing Rumors?
After the rumors fell flat for awhile, the Buffalo Bills now reportedly have renewed interested in signing star receiver DeAndre Hopkins on a cheap deal that allows both parties to compete for a Super Bowl. However, it appears that Hopkins is uninterested in this idea.
Under a recent Instagram post talking about the Bills adding Hopkins in order to "ring chase," the wideout saved his words and instead responded with emojis that went a long way in relaying the message.
He included two emojis that appear to be bulls with horns and two of the signature "smiley poop" emojis. As silly as it looks, it sure appears like Hopkins was calling "BS" on the ring-chasing rumors.
Instead, Hopkins might have a certain prerequisite for his next contract -- he wants to get paid. The fact that he's only met with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans - who are not true AFC contenders as of now - helps support this idea.
With the potential for one last big contract, Hopkins will be able to capitalize on adding a lump sum to his career earnings, but at what cost? If Hopkins chooses to defer to a team that can pay him his desired salary, he will be joining a situation that likely isn't fit for Super Bowl contention.
As for the Bills, they might be willing to make the partnership work on a team-friendly deal. Now the ball is in Hopkins' court. The Bills arguably provide the best on-field opportunity for him to make a real impact in a Super Bowl run.
Alongside Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, Hopkins would be able to work with space as the other receivers will command the attention of the defense as well.
The 31-year-old, 10-year vet has more than built a storied career. With five Pro Bowl appearances, Hopkins can easily chase a bag and rack up more stats in a top-option role. He's earned the right to do so.
However, one way the star receiver can bolster up his resume is by adding a Super Bowl victory. Doing so on a "ring-chaser" contract could be a bit of a stretch for Hopkins. It's more or less him taking a pay cut to win, too.
If Hopkins were truthfully ring chasing, he would be joining a team that's heavily favored to win the Super Bowl and would likely not be taking so much time to sign. Hopkins would genuinely play a crucial role on the offensive side of the ball for the Bills, but the two sides would have to come to terms financially before any of the on-field hype can be discussed.
