With the Buffalo Bills selecting in the back half of the 2023 NFL Draft, the team was tasked with improving their team that ended last season in a disappointing fashion with a home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs.

The Buffalo Bills draft picks for the 2023 NFL Draft going into Day 1 on Thursday night would be allocated with ‘best player available’ as the Bills don’t have a ton of glaring holes on a likely playoff-bound roster for 2023. Buffalo can definitely improve in some key areas to make them that much tougher for the rest of the AFC.

We’ll dig deeper into the Buffalo Bills draft picks as well as our expert NFL Draft reactions, where we’ll give you some of our predictions for the Buffalo Bills in the 2023 NFL season. Buffalo Bills Draft Picks for 2023

The Buffalo Bills had six picks in this year’s NFL Draft after making several trades to move up and down in the first round. They still ended up making six selections in the draft with those trades but shuffled up and down based on the value they thought was there throughout the draft. Here are the Buffalo Bills draft picks after the dust has settled on the 2023 NFL Draft:

  • Round 1 (25th overall): Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah
  • Round 2 (59th overall): O’Cyrus Torrence, G, Florida
  • Round 3 (91st overall): Dorian Williams, LB, Tulane
  • Round 5 (150th overall): Justin Shorter, WR, Florida
  • Round 7 (230th overall): Nick Broeker, G, Mississippi
  • Round 7 (252nd overall): Alex Austin, CB, Oregon State

Reaction & Expert Analysis to the Bills' 2023 NFL Draft Picks

When analyzing the Buffalo Bills draft picks, Dalton Kincaid is front and center. Kincaid is a move tight end who should be an often-used receiving threat that can line up in the slot to create mismatches. He’s a different tight end archetype than Dawson Knox and not a one-for-one replacement for Knox at the position. While Knox accrued the fourth-most slot snaps in 2022, he looks to slide into an in-line role a bit more with Kincaid split out more.

The potential of Knox and Kincaid is a bit like Buffalo’s version of Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert from their time in Philadelphia. While Goedert was positioned as an in-line tight end and took on blocking responsibilities, Ertz primarily played in the slot for then-head coach Doug Pederson and offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

With Stefon Diggs as the unquestioned top receiving target for quarterback Josh Allen, the rest of the receiving corps is in question, with Gabe Davis, Khalil Shakir, Trent Sherfield and others battling for targets in addition to Knox and Kincaid. Kincaid definitely has outs to being the second receiving target on an incredibly efficient and potent offense, which could vault his stock in his rookie 2023 season. Being labeled as “tight end Cole Beasley,” during some of the post-NFL Draft analysis, that should give you a bit of insight as to how quick and adept he is catching the football over the middle.

As for the other picks, O’Cyrus Torrence is a long, lean zone-blocking offensive lineman from Florida who may sit for stretches in his rookie season as he slots on the depth chart behind last year’s starting right guard Ryan Bates and incoming free-agent Connor McGovern. You can’t have too many offensive linemen.

In third-round linebacker Dorian Williams, he’s not expected to be a one-for-one replacement for Tremaine Edmunds, who left Buffalo in free agency. Williams can play middle linebacker but likely plays on the weak side as a sideline-to-sideline defender and stopper. He provides added value as a core special teams player at worst if defensive snaps at linebacker are hard to come by.

The first of the Day 3 Buffalo Bills draft picks, Justin Shorter, is a size and speed receiver at 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds. Based on his size, he’ll profile very well in sub-packages near the goal line, just like Jake Kumerow has for the last couple of seasons. He’s a depth piece with the possibility that it could turn into more.

The pair of seventh-round Buffalo Bills draft picks, offensive lineman Nick Broeker and cornerback Alex Austin, both should make the final Bills roster and fill out needed depth at their respective positions.

Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for the Bills' Upcoming Season Following the NFL Draft

As a premier team in the AFC for the last several years, the Buffalo Bills are always a favorite to come out of the AFC each season, especially with Josh Allen remaining the team’s quarterback after signing a huge long-term contract. It was curious to see the Bills not address the wide receiver position more with higher draft capital than a fifth-round pick, but the team seems pleased with the players they currently have. Adding Kincaid shows they weren’t afraid to go get a pass-catcher, however.

Taking a look at Buffalo’s futures market on FanDuel, taking Josh Allen at +700 for NFL MVP is always a solid bet, as he’s one of the league’s premier quarterbacks, and Buffalo is entrenched as one of the perennial playoff and Super Bowl contenders in NFL. Allen is the favorite at +700 on FanDuel along with Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes, who carry the same odds.

If you’re looking for other bets to make on the Buffalo Bills or their players, Buffalo Bills (+900) to win the Super Bowl is another advantageous bet to make. Buffalo’s 10.5 regular season wins line is the second-highest total of all NFL teams and is very attainable at -128 odds for the over. The Bills have eclipsed that win total each of the last three seasons as well as winning the division. Taking the Buffalo Bills to win the division carries +130 odds, but with the Jets dramatically improving their quarterback situation with former Green Bay Packer Aaron Rodgers and the Dolphins getting better and better, there looks to be a three-team race for that AFC East division crown.
