Mother's Murder: Buffalo Bills Ex Sergio Pleads Not Guilty; Court Date Scheduled

Former NFL and Buffalo Bills defensive back Sergio Brown has pleaded "not guilty'' to charges that he killed his 73-year-old mother.

Brown is accused of murdering his mother, Myrtle Brown, whose body was found on a creekside behind their shared home in Maywood, Illinois. In October, the 35-year-old was charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body.

Sergio Brown went missing as his mother's body was discovered, with TMZ having noted that he was allegedly spotted "partying'' in Mexico following his mother's death.

Police arrested Brown in San Diego on Oct. 10 and extradited him back to Illinois. A Circuit Court judge decided to hold him without bail because of the belief that he poses a "real and present threat" to the community.

Court documents state that Myrtle Brown was likely killed by blunt force trauma. Prosecutors also claimed they are in possession of a video that shows Sergio throwing items into a fire pit outside their home.

Myrtle's credit card was among her possessions missing when law enforcement officials searched her home, and it is alleged that Sergio - who is scheduled for his next court date on January 24 - used her card in Mexico days later to rent his Airbnb.

Sergio Brown played at Notre Dame before entering the NFL with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played seven seasons in the league as a member of the Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and finally with the Buffalo Bills.
