Denver Broncos Draft Picks, Reactions & Betting Odds Post-NFL Draft 2023
After a disappointing 2022 season that saw the Denver Broncos struggle to a 5-12 record and a fourth-place finish in the NFC West, the team looked to plug some holes in their roster for 2023 with their NFL Draft selections. Their headline-grabbing trade for Russell Wilson hurt this effort, as the Broncos only had five total selections in this year’s NFL Draft, with none in the first two rounds.

Results of All Denver Broncos Draft Picks in 2023 Including Marvin Mims
Coming into the 2023 NFL Draft, the Broncos only had five total selections. Of these picks, none were in the first two rounds; however, the team traded up to acquire the final pick of the second round on draft day. Here is each member of the Broncos’ 2023 NFL Draft class:
- Round 2, Pick 63: Marvin Mims Jr., WR, Oklahoma
- Round 3, Pick 67: Drew Sanders, LB, Arkansas
- Round 3, Pick 83: Riley Moss, CB, Iowa
- Round 6, Pick 183: J.L. Skinner, S, Boise State
- Round 7, Pick 257: Alex Forsyth, C, Oregon
The Broncos made a few additional trades on draft day. Besides trading up to take Marvin Mims Jr., they traded to acquire a third-round pick and take Riley Moss. They also moved the 195th overall pick to New Orleans in exchange for TE Adam Trautman and the 257th overall pick, which they used to select Alex Forsyth.
Analysis & Reaction to the Broncos 2023 NFL Draft
Broncos fans likely didn’t expect much out of this year’s draft class, considering they had no high picks; however, the Broncos' front office did a fairly good job of making the most of the picks they had. Their first selection in the draft came at the 63rd overall pick in round two, taking standout Oklahoma WR Marvin Mims Jr.
As a Sooner in 2022, Mims earned first-team All-Big-12 honors. He led the conference in yards per reception, showcasing his next-level explosiveness with the ball. Overall, he posted 1,083 receiving yards and 6 TD on 54 receptions.
While WR isn’t necessarily a position of concern for Denver (the team currently rosters Jerry Jeudy, Courland Sutton, Tim Patrick and K.J. Hamler, Mims Jr. should immediately step in and receive some playing time as a second-string WR. If an injury occurs in front of him or he shows enough in training camp to earn a spot, Mims Jr. has the explosiveness to be an impact player for the Broncos.
While Mims Jr. was certainly a solid pick, most Broncos NFL Draft reactions are centered around their third-round selection, Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders. Sanders was a first-team AP All-American as a Razorback last year after transferring from Alabama. He placed second in the SEC with 9.5 sacks, adding 13.5 TFL and 103 tackles. Coming into the draft, most experts placed Sanders among the top 40 picks, so getting him in the third round was an absolute steal for Denver.
The Broncos got another value pick later in the draft, in the sixth round. J.L. Skinner, a safety from Boise State, was commonly ranked somewhere around 100 among NFL Draft experts; still, a torn pectoral muscle prior to the NFL Combine hurt his draft stock, and Skinner slipped into the third day of the draft.
The Broncos were happy to take him with their sixth-round selection – Skinner was a first-team all-conference safety in 2022, posting four interceptions, 65 tackles and four pass breakups on the year. He is likely to become an above-average starter in the NFL, with the versatility to play in multiple coverages and strong run-support abilities.
Finally, the Broncos wrapped up their 2023 NFL Draft class with another steal, Oregon C Alex Forsyth. Forsyth is a three-time All-Conference selection, making the second team as a sophomore and junior before gathering first-team honors in 2022. He was also a finalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, which is given to a player who shows outstanding off-and-on-field leadership and integrity. Forsyth was seen by many offensive line specialists as an undervalued player coming into the NFL Draft, with some placing him among the top 150 selections; it didn’t pan out that way, but the Broncos are sure to be happy with receiving a player like Forsyth in the seventh.
Overall, we think the front office did a good job with these Denver Broncos draft picks; our first-glance NFL Draft reaction for Denver is positive. While it is still unknown how much of an impact this group of players will have this season, the Broncos made the most of each pick and seem to have improved their roster as a result.

Predictions & Best Bets for the Broncos Upcoming NFL Season
While the Broncos had a tough season in 2022, they have all the talent they need to succeed in 2023. Many attribute the poor season to a lack of connection between newly-acquired QB Russell Wilson and the team’s receiving corps; with an entire year under their collective belts, that could certainly change in 2023.
Moreover, RB Javonte Williams should be healthy for 2023: if he can stay on the field, he could provide a major boost to the offense. The Denver Broncos draft picks should also bolster their roster, helping them compete for a division title and playoff run.
Oddsmakers seem to believe 2022 was an aberration, as the Broncos currently hold the 12th-shortest odds (+2500) to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings. While we don’t think there’s a lot of value there for bettors, their (+175) odds to make the playoffs are certainly within reach.
While being in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs will make it difficult to win a division title, the Broncos certainly have the talent necessary to earn a playoff bid. As a result, our top prediction based on our NFL Draft reactions is for the Broncos to turn it around, make the playoffs and cash in on their (+175) betting odds.
