Browns Select DT Siaki Ika at No. 98 in the 2023 NFL Draft
Cleveland Browns made their second pick for the night by selecting DT Siaki Ika out of Baylor with the No. 98 overall pick in the third round overall. The Browns selected Ika after taking WR Cedric Tillman earlier in the third round. Ika is a large human being at 340 pounds and 6-foo-3. Ika has one main job and that is stopping the run.
Ika played in 24 games over the last two seasons at Baylor after transferring from LSU. As a senior in 2022, Ika had two tackles for a loss and 22 total. As a junior, he showed off a bit of pass-rush ability with 3.5 sacks.
A poor tester, you’ll want to look away when it comes to this Jose tackles athletic ability. The Browns added to the position in free agency but they did not add a run-plugging tackle like Ika.
Ika is strong enough to hold the point of attack for others to get involved, he doesn’t give up ground easily. Perhaps he could cut some weight and become more agile, something that the Browns may want him to do.
The snap counts may never be high for Ika but he fits a run-stuffing need that the Browns had. He works enough to penetrate and fill holes, that will be his main job in Cleveland.
Ika joins Tomlinson, Maurice Hurst, Jordan Elliott, Trysten Hill, Ben Stille, Roderick Perry, Tommy Togiai, and Perrion Winfrey as tackles hoping to make the team. At this point Tomlinson, Hurst and now Ika look to be the locks there.
Cleveland will resume the draft tomorrow as rounds four through seven will kickoff at noon eastern time.
