Former Browns Kicker Cade York Signing with Titans Practice Squad
The Cleveland Browns expressed an interesting in signing former fourth-round pick Cade York to the team's practice squad, but he has opted to go with a fresh start in Tennessee with the Titans.
The Browns traded for kicker Dustin Hopkins from the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a 2025 7th-round pick. Throughout the offseason and into the preseason, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and players were steadfast in their support of York. It wasn't until his final press conference before cut down day where Stefanski softened on the idea.
York was a tremendous kicker at LSU. He struggled as a freshman before finding his form and becoming one of the best kickers in all of college football.
After a 58-game winning field goal against the Carolina Panthers to open the 2022 season, York struggled the rest of the season. Even the following week against the New York Jets, he missed an extra point, which was one of the comedy of errors the Browns committed that allowed the New York Jets to complete a historic comeback with under two minutes to go.
The Titans get a free look at a kicker who has talent, but simply needs to figure out consistency. It could be a coup for them. However, if any team wants to sign York off their practice squad, they would be able. For the Browns, it's a major disappointment as both fourth-round picks from the 2022 draft are already off the team just a year later.
