2024 NFL Mock Draft: Buccaneers Add Texas Longhorns Wide Receiver for Depth
Should the Buccaneers target this skilled, fast wide receiver in the first round of the draft?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won free agency (sort of). Jason Licht went out and returned a team that went 9-8 and won the NFC South while even winning a playoff game. While plenty of factors went into that, the team showed real promise in the Wild Card round, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles handily.
Now, the Buccaneers have the ability to use the 2024 NFL Draft to build on their offseason and gear up for the upcoming NFL season, which provide another good opportunity to win the NFC South and compete in the playoffs.
The Draft Network released an April edition of their mock draft, and this one sees the Buccaneers drafting Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Keith Sanchez of The Draft Network broke down the fit.
"Speed, speed, and more speed. The Buccaneers have locked up Baker Mayfield for a few more years and I think they continue to add offensive pieces around him. Xavier Worthy put his speed on display at the NFL Combine but it's also all over his film. Worthy should give the Buccaneers another dynamic receiving option and make this offense dangerous," Sanchez wrote.
Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are two incredible targets for Mayfield, who the Buccnaeers secured for the next three seasons. Adding Xavier Worthy to the mix would only make the team's offense more dynamic. As Sanchez alluded to, Worthy has incredible speed. The Texas product has football speed and can use that to torch defenses, opening the game up for the other two receivers and making life easier on Mayfield.
Some mock drafts have the Buccaneers trading out of the first round, but if they can land a talent like Worthy — who can open the game up so much offensively — they might not be able to pass up on it.
