Chargers News: As Draft Approaches, Bold Justin Herbert Trade Proposed

The Los Angeles Chargers' upcoming NFL Draft plans are being kept under wraps to avoid any advantage getting out. However, the speculation has been that the team will take either a wide receiver or offensive tackle with their first-round draft pick.

Many of the other teams in the top five of the NFL Draft need a quarterback and are expected to take one. But the Chargers have star Justin Herbert, who they just signed to a massive five-year, $262.5 million extension. However, there are those who believe the Bolts may be better off starting fresh and moving on from the giant contract.

James Dator of SB Nation put together a scenario where the Bolts traded Herbert to the Minnesota Vikings, who have been talked about moving up to land a quarterback. In the trade, the Chargers would receive the No. 11 and No. 23 in the 2024 NFL Draft, a first-round pick in the 2025 Draft and wide receiver Jordan Addison.

"This is one of those ideas that seems utterly preposterous, and then you keep thinking about it, only to find it making more and more sense. In this scenario the Chargers completely restock with the ability to fill holes on both sides of the ball, while the Vikings get the only thing they truly lack with Kirk Cousins leaving: A top-tier quarterback."

This trade would be a massive haul for the Bolts, but they may also want another pick in the deal as well. But this is certainly a situation that the front office has thought about while looking to reset their salary cap. However, trading away a player like Herbert wouldn't be an easy sell to the fanbase, especially after the team just moved star wide receiver Keenan Allen.

If the Bolts did move on from Herbert, it would be a massive surprise. However, weirder things have happened and the NFL is a business after all.
