Chargers Trade Back, Land Star DL From College Football Playoff Squad
The 2024 NFL draft is less than two weeks away. Before we know it, prospects' dreams will come true, and many teams will find their guy for the future. The same is said for the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chargers will look to draft a generational type of talent, and it should be easy to find in this loaded class. However, the Bolts may not choose their guy with their number five overall pick. Many pundits and experts believe the Bolts will trade back in the draft and acquire multiple first-round picks.
In the latest CBS sports mock draft by Kyle Stackpole, that's precisely what they do. The Chargers trade back in this mock draft and select with the number 11 and 23 overall pick with the Minnesota Vikings.
With the 11th pick, the Chargers go big and select Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham. With their second first-round pick, Stackpole believes they will stay big and select Texas defensive lineman Bryon Murphy II.
"First Jim Harbaugh goes offensive line, and then he goes defensive line. Byron Murphy II should be gone before this point, so the Chargers get a steal."
According to CBS Sports, Murphy is the 15th-best prospect and the number-one player in his position. The 21-year-old was a force to be reckoned with in the college game. He dominated in his junior sedans, recording 29 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in 14 games.
The Texas native stands at six feet and weighs 297 pounds. Murphy II is projected to be drafted in the middle of the first round. He displays elite athletic skills, an explosive first step, and an effective hand technique that allows him to shed blocks and navigate through traffic to apply pressure or make stops.
The trenches and playing physical football are Jim Harbaugh's bread and butter. These two picks in this mock draft perfectly fit Harbaugh's style. We shouldn't be surprised if the Bolts go in this direction.
