Jim Harbaugh Gives More Insight Into Chargers First-Round Draft Plans

As the 2024 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, teams are finalizing their plans and draft boards. Nobody knows how it will all shake out, but teams can make their best educated guesses leading up to the event.

For the Los Angeles Chargers, they hold the fifth overall pick in the draft, giving them a prime opportunity to take a game-changer. Los Angeles has been speculated to take either a wide receiver or an offensive tackle with the pick, but they could always shock everyone. There has also been talk about the team potentially trading back to gain more draft capital.

New head coach Jim Harbaugh shared a little more insight into the potential plans for the Bolts during a recent press conference. The Chargers know that they will get a quality player, but it's now a matter of the correct fit and personality for the franchise.

"If it comes around to it and we're on the clock at No. 5, we know we got a great player that's going to be there for us," Harbaugh said. "Haven't determined who it's going to be but it's an exciting pick."

Having a top pick in the first round is the only silver lining from their poor 2023 season. The Chargers faltered throughout the year, stumbling to a 5-12 record. But the new regime plans to use the upcoming draft to help bolster the roster going forward.

“It's such a great pick, everybody can analyze that. Doesn't take a lot to understand that there's some real possibilities. We're really, super excited about that pick so we'll see how it plays out."

If the Chargers play their cards right, they will get a player who can help them turn their fortunes around. Harbaugh isn't going to give up who the team will take, but the Bolts are in great shape heading into the draft.
