Chargers News: LA Faces Major AFC West Competition For Services Of Top Free Agent

As the Los Angeles Chargers offseason continues, they still have plenty of holes that they need to fill across the roster. The team is planning on using the upcoming NFL Draft to address some spots along the roster, but there are still plenty of quality, proven players available on the open market.

One position that the team needs to address is the running back position. After losing Austin Ekeler this offseason, the team did sign former Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards to a contract. But Edwards may be better as a piece of a two-headed running back system, so the Bolts have been looking elsewhere.

One name that has been connected with the team is former Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins, who is coming off a torn Achilles, but has strong traction in the recovery process. Dobbins could serve the Chargers well if signed, in part because he is familiar with new offensive coordinator Greg Roman's system from their time together in Baltimore.

However, it seems that the Chargers are getting some heavy competition from an AFC West rival in the sweepstakes for Dobbins. The reigning Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs, are also looking to potentially bring him in.

Losing Dobbins to the Chiefs would be tough to see for the Bolts, so the front office will need to present a strong offer to him. Even with his injury, Dobbins could provide explosiveness to the backfield, giving them a solid running back duo with Edwards.

The Bolts are seemingly looking to duplicate what the Ravens did with Roman a few years back, which could work out well in their favor. Dobbins will likely sign somewhere soon, hopefully, ending up in Los Angeles.
