Chargers News: LA Interested In Signing Elite WR Free Agent
The Los Angeles Chargers still need to address their wide receiver situation after trading away star Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and releasing Mike Williams. The team is expected to do some damage in the upcoming NFL Draft, but they should still look to add one or two veteran receivers in free agency.
The Bolts current wide receiver group doesn't put much fear into opponents, so the front office has some work to do. One name that has been linked to the Bolts all offseason is former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd. Boyd has spent his entire career with the Bengals but is unlikely to return to the team for next season.Bolts'
The Athletic's Mark Kaboly mentioned the Bolts as a possible team to watch out for in the sweepstakes to land Boyd. He mentioned that the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team that was heavily involved with Boyd early in the offseason, aren't likely to end up signing him.
"I would say that it would be a long shot, at best, that the two sides come together. From what I have been told, Boyd was extremely interested in Pittsburgh at the beginning of the free-agency process, but the offer wasn’t something he was comfortable with. Boyd has at least had preliminary interest from the Chiefs, Chargers, Dolphins, Lions and 49ers. I am pretty sure the ship with the Steelers has sailed."
Adding a player like Boyd could help the Bolts greatly. He has been a serviceable number two or three in the Bengals system for years and brings playoff experience.
Last season with Cincinnati, Boyd caught 67 catches for 667 yards and two touchdowns. He would become a favorite of quarterback Justin Herbert if signed, so the Bolts may want to grab him before it's too late.
