Chargers News: After Healthy Scratch, Ex-Super Bowl Champ's LA Contract Looks Bleak

Not ideal to say the least.

Benched in the Chargers' week three victory against the Vikings, J.C. Jackson's time in LA may be coming to an end shortly.

Healthy enough to play in the contest, the former Patriot's scratch from the gameday roster doesn't make his expensive contract look any better for Bolts GM Tom Telesco.

Los Angeles made the veteran cornerback a healthy scratch for its Week 3 road game against the Minnesota Vikings. It’s the first time Jackson has been a healthy inactive since Week 6 of the 2018 season when he was a rookie with the New England Patriots. Jackson’s first campaign in Los Angeles got off to a rough start, as he earned a miserable 28.7 Pro Football Focus grade in five games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. And he wasn’t much better in his first two games this season, giving up six catches on 13 targets for 118 yards and a touchdown, per PFF’s stat tracking, while registering one interception.

Earning a Super Bowl ring from his time in the AFC East, Jackson played three more solid seasons under Bill Belichick before signing a massive free-agent deal with LA in 2022.

Unable to recapture his previous form with the Patriots, Jackson's play when healthy hasn't inspired confidence under his new employer.

Impressively working his way back from a season-ending knee tear in 2022, Jackson's return to the Chargers' secondary hasn't been a Hollywood story in the slightest.

Already benched during his healthy stretch with LA last season, Jackson found himself on the sidelines again last Sunday.

Even when he has made plays, Jackson arguably lost the Chargers the game in Week 1 after a costly pass interference penalty, an interception return gaffe, and consistently blown coverage all afternoon.

With his coach, Brandon Staley, losing confidence in his abilities, Jackson's pricey contract on the roster sticks out like a sore thumb on a team with questionable depth.
