Chargers News: Former Pro Bowl QB Considers Bolts Most Disappointing Story Of Early Season

LA certainly tops the list here.

So far, through the first few weeks of the new NFL season, we have seen some teams start hot that most didn't see coming. But we have also seen multiple teams that have struggled out of the gate that many didn't expect as well.

Teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals, and others have been the biggest disappointments so far. But thankfully, it is still early in the season, so there is plenty of time to turn things around, even if history isn't on their side.

For the Bolts, they dropped two games that they easily could have won. It makes things even more frustrating because they had chances to grab victories.

Former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb gave his thoughts on the Chargers season so far during the debut episode of his new podcast, The Five Spot with Donovan McNabb.

McNabb labeled the Bolts as the most disappointing team, and on the show, Outkick.com Senior NFL Writer Armando Salguero went as far as to say that the team was wasting the talent of quarterback Justin Herbert.

“They are wasting Justin Herbert,” he said of the San Diego Los Angeles Chargers. “Their coach, Brandon Staley. I mean, I didn’t think I didn’t think he could do any worse than blowing that 27-7 halftime lead in the playoffs last year (against the Jaguars), And here he is at the start of this season, and he’s doing worse.”

Per Armando Salguero of Outkick.com

McNabb seemed to agree with the sentiment and continued pilling on head coach Brandon Staley.

“You would think that they would kind of run a little bit more ball control and take shots downfield,” McNabb said. “But it seemed like they were just trying to run the ball, run the ball, run the ball with play action. Is it more of Kellen Moore trying to get adjusted to Justin? Or is it just Brandon Staley just continuing to mess things up?”

This has become a common narrative for most in the football industry. Staley entered the year on the hot seat and hasn't done anything to help his case this season.

He seems in over his head at times, and that isn't a great look for a coach of a team with Super Bowl aspirations. The Bolts were banking on another year with Staley for things to improve, but it has been the opposite so far.

If things don't change soon, Staley will likely be let go. He isn't to blame for all of the Chargers issues, but he hasn't done much to fix things. The clock is ticking on his tenure as the Bolts head coach, and not even Herbert may be able to save his job.
