Chargers News: Should Los Angeles To Select This WR With No. 5 Pick?
Will the Los Angeles Chargers look to shore up their offensive weapons around Justin Herbert? There's been chatter that the team will look to trade down from the No. 5 overall pick in this month's NFL draft, but the club has offloaded its top weapons at both the running back and wide receiver positions, while doubling down on its aging defenders, despite its most important player being its quarterback.
So it would certainly behoove the Bolts to add the best offensive weapon possible for Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert. Jordan Reid of ESPN recently advocated for Los Angeles to preserve the fifth pick and select the top available piece. He also outlined exactly who that is, to his thinking: All-American and First-Team All-SEC LSU Tigers junior wideout Malik Nabers.
“If there’s one word I would use to describe Malik Nabers, it would be explosive," Reid opined. "He led the country in receiving yards per game last season with just under 120 and the Chargers only have Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston on the roster right now, so there’s a huge need for an upgrade at receiver. Malik Nabers would bring that dynamic, high-end wide receiver one into the forefront.”
Nabers, All-American Ohio State junior wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., and senior All-American Washington Huskies receiver Rome Odunze are all considered the top prospects at the position this year.
