Cleveland Browns vs. Kansas City Chiefs Prediction for NFL Preseason Week 3
The AFC is stacked with talent this season and there will be a lot of it on the field at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday when the Chiefs host the Browns. Both head coaches have suggested that we'll get at least a brief look at their starters, which means a fascinating battle between Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson early in the first quarter.
The Browns began their preseason campaign early due to playing in the Hall of Fame Game on the weekend their great offensive tackle Joe Thomas was inducted, and they beat the Jets in that contest. A narrow defeat to the Commanders followed before a tie against the Eagles which was mostly contested by backups after the teams had scrimmaged during joint-practices that week. The Browns are set to give their starters more of a run this week, and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is never shy to give his stars a taste of the preseason action either.
The Chiefs have played just two games to date, both on the road, so the crowd will be pumped for the homecoming of the Super Bowl champions. They opened their 2023 preseason campaign with a 26-24 loss to the Saints in New Orleans when Mahomes started but took only five snaps. Game two brought a comfortable victory over the Arizona Cardinals in a matchup of the teams at the top and bottom of the Super Bowl odds list. Mahomes threw the opening touchdown in that 38-10 rout before stepping out.
Both teams have shown enough already to suggest they will be worth watching this year but the points on offer for the Chiefs as home underdogs are attractive.

The first quarter should be fun to watch but it's harder to assess what will happen after that depending on the playing time given to each team's better players. The Browns' retooled first team defensive line, now featuring former Vikings Dalvin Tomlinson and Za'Darius Smith, looks likely to be a real problem for opposing offenses in the regular season, but they may not be around long enough to make an impact on this game. Reid won't delve deep into his box of tricks for a preseason game but his squad is usually good enough and coached well enough to be competitive in preseason games. The Chiefs went 2-1 in the warm-up games last season and 3-0 the year before, so we like their chances of at least staying within three points of the Browns.

The 2023 NFL regular season kicks off on Thursday September 7, when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions.
