Colts Announce Full List of Roster Cuts Ahead of Season

The Colts waived the following players on Tuesday: RB Jake Funk, RB Jason Huntley, WR D.J. Montgomery, WR Amari Rodgers, WR Mike Strachan, C Dakoda Shepley, DE Khalid Kareem, DT Caleb Sampson, LB Liam Anderson, LB Donavan Mutin, CB Darius Rush, CB Isaac Taylor-Stuart, CB Kevin Toliver, S Henry Black, and S Marcel Dabo.

Analysis: The player that immediately stands out is Rush, a fifth-round pick of the Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft. Rush was thought to push for a starting cornerback spot early in camp. However, injuries hampered Rush throughout the summer and he struggled in the preseason. The Colts will likely try to bring Rush back on the practice squad.

The Colts also released the following players on Tuesday: WR Breshad Perriman, WR Vyncint Smith, WR James Washington, WR Juwann Winfree, TE Pharaoh Brown, T Dan Skipper, DE Al-Quadin Muhammad, and S Ronnie Harrison.

Analysis: All but four of the Colts' wide receivers were waived or released on Tuesday. The remaining wide receivers on the team are Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, and Isaiah McKenzie. Expect the Colts to be active on the waiver wire as they look for more help at receiver.

The following Colts were placed on injured reserve on Tuesday, ending their season: TE Ricky Seals-Jones, C Danny Pinter, DE Titus Leo, and LB JoJo Domann.

Analysis: Pinter suffered a season-ending ankle injury in last Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The loss of Pinter does not help the Colts' depth along the offensive line, an area they were already struggling with. The rookie Leo had a very good chance of making the 53-man roster as well if he could have stayed healthy.

The lone Colts player moved to the physically unable to perform list was RB Jonathan Taylor.

Analysis: After a week filled with drama and speculation, the Colts did not end up trading Taylor and instead kept him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Taylor will now miss at least the first four games of the regular season. The running back continues to recover from an ankle surgery he underwent in January and has yet to practice since. The saga between the two parties continues.

CB Chris Lammons was placed on the Reserve/Suspended by Commissioner List.

Analysis: Lammons was suspended by the league earlier this year for his role in a fight during the offseason. Because Lammons was placed on this list, the Colts do not have to make a final decision on his roster status until he is reinstated. The Colts will ultimately decide if they want to keep Lammons when his suspension is up.
