Commanders NFL Schedule Release Reaction: Games, Odds and Predictions

The Washington Commanders had a tumultuous 2022 season, going 8-8-1 and finishing in last place in the NFC East largely due to issues at quarterback. However, there is optimism for the Commanders heading into 2023, and Thursday’s NFL schedule release gives us an opportunity to make some early predictions for the squad in 2023.

Commanders Predictions, Picks & Best Bets for the 2023 NFL Season After the Schedule Release

BBased on Thursday's NFL schedule release, the Washington Commanders have a fairly difficult schedule in 2023. The Washington Commanders start off fairly easily with the Cardinals and Broncos before the heat really gets turned up in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills.

They’ll then have to play the Eagles on the road the next week. Later in the season, the Commanders get the Eagles again, the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers to round out a very difficult second half of the season.

Looking at the Washington Commanders’ schedule for 2023, there are between five and seven games that should be won if the team plays up to expectations, depending on how the Bears and Giants perform in 2023. As a result, we think the 6.5-win total posted by DraftKings is a tough line to bet.

If the Commanders win seven or more games, they played a bit better than expected. If they win six or fewer, they played below expectations. We just don’t think there’s a lot of value there, nor do we believe there is value in betting on their Super Bowl, NFC Champion or Division Winner props. A lot of things would need to break right for the Commanders to win their division, let alone the NFC or Super Bowl.

However, there are two Washington Commanders lines we like. The first is Washington to make the playoffs (+300 at DraftKings). While it’s still a bit of a longshot, the expanded Wild Card format could facilitate a Commanders' playoff appearance if they’re better than expected.

Our primary Washington Commanders prediction, though, is for them to cover the 5.5-point spread in Week 1 and cash in on their (-110) odds on DraftKings. The Commanders play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, who are expected to be one of the weakest teams in the league.

There may be very few times where the Commanders are favored in 2023, but we think the 5.5-point spread for Week 1 is a little low. If the Commanders figure out their QB situation, there’s a good chance they beat the Cardinals by a considerable margin.

We’d recommend getting your bets in early, as sharp action is quite likely to move the line significantly before Week 1 arrives. Therefore, our early prediction based on the NFL schedule release is Washington -5.5 (-110 at DraftKings) against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.
